Meet Alicia

Hi! I'm a 24-year old, working in consulting in New York. I didn't always like reading when I was a kid since I have ADHD -- reading for school used to be a source of stress for me because of how difficult it was to focus and how long it took me to read something compared to my classmates. After not reading much in college and used to being constantly stimulated by TV, social media, etc., I finally started picking up reading a couple years ago! I love being a part of these imaginative worlds and experiencing other people's (real or fictional) lives. Reading has helped me not only let go of the constant need for stimulation but it has also allowed me to learn how to be more patient with myself and embrace living more in the moment.

Favorite Genres: fantasy, memoir, YA

Meet Chelsea

I am Alicia's older sister, though I may not be wiser. Unlike Alicia, my love of reading started when I was young. I reveled in the fantastical worlds conjured up by my favorite authors, and I found solace in the characters who felt sometimes more real than people I knew in real life. I went on to major in English literature in college, and here is where I discovered my love of poetry, and I started to dabble in writing poetry. I went to medical school after college, and there I was still able to pursue my love of literature. I was awarded a Gemini Ink Mentorship, and had the opportunity to work with poet Laura Van Prooyen on a poetry chapbook (work of which is currently on pause at the moment, hopefully not indefinitely). I am now a resident in Internal Medicine, so I work long hours and unfortunately I am guilty of not having a ton of time to read. I want to read more and write more, and hopefully use this as a safe place to share ideas, thoughts, and get everyone more excited about books!
